Referendum 2022 - Instructions for returning voting ballots

Have you received the ballots for the Referendum Popolare 12 Giugno and don't know what it is? Read this post to learn more.

Do you already know what it is about and want to understand the step by step to vote? Follow the step by step.

Remember, in Italy voting is not mandatory.

STEP BY STEP TO RETURN BALLOTS - REVOCATORY REFERENDUM 2022

1. Envelope contents

Inside the envelope from the Consulate or Embassy, you will find five ballot papers numbered 1 to 5 in red, orange, yellow, gray, and green. You will also find your electoral certificate (document with your name on it), an instruction sheet, a page with information about the referendum, a smaller all-white envelope, and a pre-sealed medium envelope with the Consulate/Embassy address already filled in.

2. Ballots - how to vote

Each ballot refers to a referendum question. You must choose between Yes or No by marking with a black or blue pen. Then, use Google Translate to help you understand the text if necessary and search on the topic on the various Italian news portals. Voting is personal, free, and secret.

After making your choice, place the ballots inside the smaller white envelope and seal it with glue. ATTENTION: Sending the open white envelope invalidates the vote.

If you do not wish to answer one of the questions, you can simply return the blank or void ballot.

3. Electoral Certificate - what to do

The Electoral Certificate has a prominent line indicated with the symbol of scissors below the box with the instructions, called TAGLIANDO ELETTORALE. Cut on the line and place the part inside the envelope to the Consulate/Embassy (the envelope that contains the pre-filled address).

4. Envelope with the ballot

Place the envelope with the ballots inside the middle envelope. The same one you put your TAGLIANDO ELETTORALE in. Close the envelope.

5. Post the envelope to the nearest Post Office.

Give preference to mailboxes installed in a Post Office service agency to avoid the risk of delay in receiving the ballot at the Consulate/Embassy. THE ENVELOPE WITH YOUR VOTE MUST ARRIVE AT THE EMBASSY/CONSULATE BY JUNE 9th. Street Mailboxes work but may have a slower collection than those installed in branches.

ATTENTION: YOU MUST NOT WRITE ANY SENDER ON THE ENVELOPE OR REPLACE THE ENVELOPE WITH ONE OTHER THAN THE ONE RECEIVED FROM THE CONSULATE.
