4. Issue your Italian Passport
For most dual citizens, having an Italian passport is the great objective of Italian citizenship. There are many advantages of having an Italian passport if you want to travel, work or live in Europe.
Remember that the passport is a travel document, also used as an identification document. Still, it is not the document that says or not that you are Italian before Italy; it's an outcome of being Italian.
I will not delve too deeply into this post because the passport application procedure differs from each Consulate and in each situation (single adult, married adult, adult with children, minors, etc.). In general, to apply for a passport outside Italy, you must schedule an appointment at the Consulate responsible for your residence and follow the procedures available on the website. Each Consulate has its application form.
It is important to remember that the ordinary passport is valid for ten years for adults and is typically issued to those with an updated and registered AIRE. Therefore, keeping the AIRE up to date is essential to facilitate the issuance process. In addition, having a copy of your certificates, as I mentioned in another post, can also be a facilitator when scheduling and requesting, especially in more discerning Consulates such as those in Brazil.
