1. Keep your copy of the transcripts made by the Italian Municipality

After recognizing Italian citizenship, it is necessary to transcribe your marital status certificates (birth, marriage, etc.) If you carry out your citizenship recognition process abroad, the Italian Municipality (Comune) responsible for the transcriptions will be the same that issued your Dante Causa's birth certificate.

This process typically starts right after citizenship is recognized and is triggered by the Consulate. The completion of transcription depends on each Comune and can take from a few days to many months.

It is recommended that once the transcription is completed, you keep a copy of the documents. Typically, the Comune issues the first certificate at the time of transcription. If you do not receive your copy, please request it directly to your Comune.

POST RECOGNITION TRANSCRIPTIONS

Transcription does not only occur in the act of recognizing citizenship. You must apply for registration whenever you have any change in marital status (marriage, divorce), name change, death, the birth of a child, etc. Look for your Consulate's civil registration procedures (Anagrafe). You can also request some of these services through Fast-It, the Italian consular service system.

HOW TO REQUEST A COPY OF THE ITALIAN CERTIFICATE

The certificates are transcribed and registered in an Italian Comune. You can request a certificate directly from a Comune by email or using some "dispatcher" service to do it for you.

Check the Comune website for the procedure for requesting a copy. Usually, a simple email with personal details is enough. Other times you may need to use a PEC email (I'll talk more about this in another post). If you prefer a paid, easier way, you can apply via the Pratiche.it website.

EMAIL TEMPLATES FOR THE COMUNE IN ITALIAN

If you need to contact a Comune and don't know Italian, use one of the templates below to place your request.
